Love doesn't Fall; It Rises

It was August 24, 1985. St. Barnabas Church, Alameda, CA.
Jodi and I celebrated the Sacrament of Matrimony. It was a lifetime ago and it was just yesterday. It has been 20 years of joy, sorrow, triumphs, failures, mountains, valleys, happiness, sadness, courage, fear, hope, despair, dreams come true, dreams crashing. It has been about addiction, recovery, living, dying, rising...more dying and more rising; with the dying being just as essential and holy as the rising. It has been a perfectly imperfect and holy adventure. Even if I could, I would
change nothing. I would change nothing about the gift of Jesse Ray. The gift of Jayme. The gift of Jennah. I would change nothing of any of our greatest accomplishments and even greater disasters.
For every moment was grace. Every moment brought us and brings us here. Every moment of light and shadow.
20 years of marriage. A 20 year banquet of every imagineable circumstance.
And we are here.
I love Jodi. Let me say that differently and more truly and powerfully....I CHOOSE JODI. For love is in the choosing. Not the feeling or falling in love. Love doesn't fall. Love rises.
With my infinite number of fears and imperfections, JODI CHOOSES ME.
Why? Because she needs me? Because I need her? Because she rocks? Because I have rocks in my head? Because she's beautiful? Because I look like George Clooney? Because she's brilliant? Because I'm a legend in me own mind?
Those are all part of the small story.
Big story?
I love Jodi because I love Jodi.
I choose Jodi because I choose Jodi.
And she loves and chooses me.
