Vancouver to California

zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz...It's been another holy blur, friends. Went to Vancouver, BC, for my family up in Canada. Kevin and Tim, Clay, Sean and the Imoos, Joyful Noise Catholic bookstore....Clay and Sean pick me up at the airport. Took over an hour to get through customs! Sean greets me with a high five. We roll over to Joyful Noise Catholic Bookstore where I greet a few folks and strum a little guitar; then over to Red Robin with Clay and Sean; then over to St. Mary Church to Tim and Kevin. It's a pretty full house up in Canada! After the concert, some holy time at the Richmond Sushi, an all-you-can-and-are-able-to-eat. I find that I am oh, so able.
Then Clay drops me off at the airport hotel...it's around 1AM and I have been bad. Eat late, sleep late, makes for bad Jesse. Asleep around 2AM, wake at 4AM to catch a 6AM flight to Los Angeles for a concert that evening in Redondo Beach! MERCY! Rene picks me up a little late, but no worries, we get there. Get to the hotel for a power nap. Batteries. Must charge them. Sleep. Snore...zzzzzzzzz. WAKE!! My cousin Joe Hilgeman arrives and knocks at the door. We hug and do the Guamanian Death Polka. Soon to be released for XBox. Then we jam over to St. Lawerence. We chomp free food subtances at the potluck. And when the food is free...we are lucky. Chomp and run. Set up guitar, mics, all manner of stuff, then countdown to concert pyrotechnics. My silver metallic cape, with Pirates of Penzance boots, and big daddy love hat with the 17 inch peacock feather is smoothly tipped at a slight 21.7% angle. I have no Pierre Cardin cologne but truly, I am the man, nonetheless. The concert explodes with a fury of drums, high tech percussion, and a 15 foot digital diggery doo straight from the hills of Patagonia. A 80 foot waterfall, built specifically for this concert, along with at least 1.5 million dollars worth of set, lights, and sound, and all at once, I wake from my illusions of root beer, and realize that it's just me and cousin Joe tonight. Ah, but there's still so much you can do with guitar and bass. Who needs all the bells and whistles? So Joe and I play with the fury of two polar bears on a hot tin roof. Or not. We sing. We pray. We play. And all is cool with the world.
Off to sleepy town and awaken for the morning workshop. It's more like, Mornings With Jesse. It's cozy, intimate, and pretty darn cool. By 12PM, I'm done. Hang out in the parking lot with Jennifer Rickert, an aspiring Catholic artist. We chat for a bit as I wait for Jimmy de San Fernando. He's sort of like Antonio Banderas but taller. He arrives, muy tarde, pero el es mi amigo bueno y yo se que el es muy tarde con su novia tambien. Ay, que Dios, quisas Jimmy piensa que yo es como de su novia? Okay, that was a poor attempt at Spanish. Lo siento.
Jimmy and his younger brother, Kiro, pick me up and take me to Sacred Heart Church in Covino. We make it just as mass is ending and so we've got to scurry to set up for the concert. My host, Jim DeCorse, rockin' youth minister, greets me with his family, and we get to some scurrying. It's a great concert. Every age group is there. It's a night of encouragement and affirmation. Jim is the man. His heart is as big as his body. Dude is about 12 feet tall. He and I look scary as we launched ourselves up and off a 125 foot ramp with our Harleys! Wait, uh, er, I think I just used my imagination again. No 12 feet, no Harleys, no ramp...but, there definitely was a concert! After the concert, we go to this killer Mexican restaurant. Dude, I ate totally healthy. Ordered a humongous fruit salad and then chomped on some serious Ceviche. Look it up. Then Jim drops me off at the Hampton. Sleep, snore...zzzzzz. Awake at 9AM for breakfast with Jim at Marie Calendars. Jimmy de San Fernando, picks me up, drives me to St. Ferdinand's where we meet Kenny Penalver, and head over to Santa Clarita, for a wedding for Kevin and Adrianne.
Rich and Joe will meet us at Mission Hills for a concert later on that night. Wedding is beautiful, but we're running very late. Kenny, Jimmy and I pack up quick and dash over to Bishop Alemany in Mission Hills! We break no speed limits, for indeed we are safe drivers! Mass is already begun, so we unload our gear so it's ready to move and place right after mass. We do so and the concert starts in plenty of time! This concert is a fundraiser for some friends in New Orleans and tons of folks show up. Yikes. I should be dead tired, with this schedule, but for some crazy reason, I'm full of energy and am almost manic on stage. Yikes. Jesse Manic-busan. Concert rocks. Rich, Joe, Kenny and I are reunited. The only ones missing are Donnie, Tony, Pete and Ken Canedo. After the concert, we're off to El Presidente Mexican Restaurant with Fr. Paul, Joey, Victor, Liz, Jimmy, Kenny, and a few other folks. Exhausted. Head over to Fr. Bryan Silva's house, where Rich, Kenny, and I invade in our island fashion. I jump into my Scooby Doo PJs, chat with the boys for a bit, and hit the hammock of zzzzzzzzzzzzzz. Somehow I get on a plane the next morning....zzzzzzz.....and then the plane lands. It's in Texas....home...home...sweet home....
