EDMONTON, ALBERTA, CANADA, March 17-18, 06
Two years ago I was at this event. I met Bonnie, David, Anh, Stef, Michelle, and tons of others at this Catholic Conference. How thrilled am I with the amazing drive that the Church in Canada has for learning, growing, and expending energy and resource for the mission of the Gospel? Very thrilled. Whether it's British Columbia, Alberta, Ontairo or Saskatchewan, (Provinces where I've actually been!), the drive is always there to be open to the Spirit and face the challenges in the Church truthfully and passionately.
Of course, no Canadian I've met thus far, is walking on water. The same remains for those I've met in the United States. However, I am open to the possibility that as Jesus walked on water and walked through walls, through laws, over lines and divisions, that he believes we're just as capable. Yikes. Mustard seed. That's all we need...the faith of a mustard seed.
I met Amanda, up and coming world future Journalist of the Year. Met Bishop Henry. Met Cam, great song leader. Met some folks from the Oblates of Mary, lay missionaries. Got to meet Sr. Jose Hobeday, amazing and powerful woman of faith. I could've sat at her feet for hours listening to the Holy Spirit speak through her. I got schooled by that elder. Big time schooled. She has an uncanny gift of appreciation for all of God's miracles, big and especially, small. I've seen websites that accuse her of being a heretic, but I'm certain now, that those folks are just angry at her because Sr. Jose just made them do the Hokey Pokey with the rest of the crowd. Don't hate on folks that accuse you, me and Sr. Jose of being heretics. Those folks, just like us, are just as scared, confused, and in need of love and understanding. FEAR. It makes us mean and hurtful if we don't face it.
I know some hyprocrites in the Catholic Church. They're actually just like me. Sometimes full of anger. Full of bitterness. Full of jealously. Full of self-righteousness. Full of fear. And thanks be to God, full of grace.
Learned a lot in Edmonton. Got to play guitar with Stef, David, and others in the hospitality suite. Let me tell you about those folks, they know ten thousand songs!
Grande Praire and now Edmonton....how blessed am I?
