Wednesday, May 3rd...arrived at the Toronto International airport, greeted by St. Alphonsus' own Ruthie and Fr. Paul! Grand welcome, smiles, hugs and high fives. We head over to the other terminal to wait for Kenny Penalver's flight arrival. 40 minutes later, viola! Jump in the car and start our 1.5 hour drive to Peterborough. Ruthie, Fr. Paul, Kenny and I share some conversation, get to know each other and some of the mission and vision of St. Alphonsus. We're going to have two...
presentations on Thursday, the first presentation for 9th graders, andfor 10th and 11th graders. Friday night we'll have a concert where Salt & Light Television will tape the whole thing. Meet some pretty cool folks, Danny and Terry are gearing up the PA system, Curtis is setting up drums, Danny Jr and Joanna are hanging out and helping, Carol's cooked a meal for us, Hanna greeting folks as they come in and out. Kenny and I run a quick rehearsal with Mike, Curtis, Steve, Andrew, Kayla, Sam, Kate, Mary Kate, and Angie. Afterwards, Ruthie drops Kenny and I off at the RIVERSIDE BED AND BREAKFEST, sweet home for the away-from-home travelers. Kathy and Dan Finnegan have generously donated two evenings for Kenny and I, while we're working at St. Alphonsus. Okay, here's the deal. The RIVERSIDE BED AND BREAKFEST is ACTUALLY & LITERALLY ON THE SIDE OF THE RIVER.

Kathy took Kenny and I to the supermarket to get some snacks and stuff, and she cooked us breakfast two mornings in a row. Not just breakfast, but a super duper breakfast FEAST! Amen.
Two days in Peterborough...Thursday was huge. Total, massive, full, conscious and active participation on the part of students, teachers, staff, volunteers, and all other living things. BAM. Both presentations. Both liturgies, just awesome. After both events, some of us head over to Uncle Timmy Horton's. Ruthie, Danny, Patty Ann, Joanna, Danny Jr, Fr. Paul, Kenny and myself...Danny Jr, sitting across from me, asks, "Jesse, so what are you doing tomorrow?" I reply, "Kenny and I actually have a pretty free day until the concert." Danny Jr. asks, "Well, can you come to my school?" THE DUDE ROCKS. St. Catherine is an elementary school that Danny Jr and Joanna attend. So...he asks. And Fr. Paul calls the appropriate folks to get an okay.
Thursday night, RIVERSIDE BED & BREAKFAST, literally ON THE RIVER!!! Fr. Paul, Ruthie, Patty Ann, Danny, Kathy, Kenny and myself are hanging out, talking about the day, eating Swiss Chalet and drinking down bottles of vintage Dasani H2O.
Next morning....DUDE, I am performing in Joanna's classroom and then for the St. Catherine's entire 6th, 7th, and 8th grade. I blame Danny Jr. Danny Jr. is going places.
Concert goes extremely well. Full house. Salt and Light TV, Pedro, Javier, George, and Pierre handle cameras, lights, interview. They'll be able to get a full hour of program for their show. Folks turn out in full force. The band is hopping. The place is rocking. Teresa Cosentino, youth minister extraordinaire, presents a slide show of the trip to Honduras and the great exchange of love and presence between the Honduran and Canadian communities. Baby, that's the gospel. One humanity. One family. Many problems and many solutions if we would but live what we claim. Welcome everyone. Exclude no one.
The concert's over, we share some love. Hugs to Ruthie, Paul, Stan, Placido, Danny, Patty Ann, Joanna, Danny Jr., Teresa, Mike, Curtis, Terry, everybody....St. Carl revs up the van, now packed with Kenny and my gear...BAM, off into the night...a three hour drive to London! I sit in the back and saw logs, while Kenny and Carl keep each other awake. Lord, St. Alphonsus...St. Catherine, the parish, the schools, the whole community...and the RIVERSIDE BED & BREAKFAST. Gotta love it. Kenny does. I do. Love you all. Appreciate you all! Stay bold, passionate and awake in the mission of the gospel.
The bed and breakfast is ACTUALLY ON THE RIVER!!!!
