Land in Minneapolis early in the morning. David Haas and Paul Tate pick me up and we dash off to the studio to record some tracks for two of my songs, "God is Good" and "Come Holy Spirit." This is part of David's collection for confirmation. Cool to be invited to write for that. Catch a quick breakfast and 10 cups of coffee, then we're in the studio puttin' it in the red. It's great to hear my two songs in this cool arrangement. Wicked great. I hate recording anything in the studio or anything for that matter. BUT, it is a treat and a magnificent fun to share time with the likes
of such coolness with Bobby Fisher, Kate Cuddy, Lorie True, Kitty True, and Steve Petrunak. Okay, these are like major music maniacs, folks. The session goes fast and before you know it, super Kate Cuddy and I jump in the car and head over to Eagan, where I'm going to get a couple of hours of sleep before the concert in Prior Lake. Before I know it, Gina is picking Kara Klein, who is also singing at the concert, and myself, to head over to St. Michael. Sound checks, meeting people and the concert begins. It's a Wednesday night and the church is bursting at the seams with people! Kara sings a couple of songs in the beginning and then me. It goes by so fast. Gina takes Kara and I over to check out the Youth Room. HELLO. I want a youth room like that. Amazing. Bill Casey gives Kara and I ride back to Eagan, and before you can say "Bob's your uncle," I am on a plane to Detroit.

Land in Detroit and catch a ride over bridge into Windsor, Ontario, home where my Uncle Timmy Horton lives. Heading right over to meet my friend, Barry Elliott, and bam, I'm playing before a gymnasium full of students--finish, then BAM, I'm at another school in front of a room full of kindergartners and first graders, then BAM, a room full of middle/junior high schoolers. Yikes. Then Barry and I head over to yet, another site, where a room full of teachers are meeting. I see Angie and Heidi, Mary, Joe and Louise Elliott, and tons of music is made. What a day! Uncle Timmy save me. Near the end of the evening I see my friends Linda Jarvi and Ashley Ahyou. I share love with the Elliotts, say goodbye, and jump into the van with Linda and Ashley as we head over to Detroit.

A day of down time. And so Pat, from St. Joan of Arc, sets up a fishing trip with a professional guide, Larry, where we hit the lake. We flog the water for quite some time, catching and releasing a few fish. Beautiful day to be on the water. Reminds me of some other fisherfolk that I know....hmmmm...Curtis? Yes...my brother Joe? Yes....Simon Peter, Andrew, Shakira and Bob? Meanwhile, Chris Gosselin is landing in Detroit. While that's happening, Jason Jarvi picks me up at Larry's house after the fishing adventure. At some point, we're all together on a Friday night, just hanging out and taking it easy. It's nice to have a down day. I forget where we got dinner, but it was a local place. I try to encourage Chris to eat fish or at least something that's been fried in fish oil, but alas, he declines. After dinner, we head to the hotel, call it a night, and zzzzzzzzz. Next day starts easy AND late. At some point, Ashley, Chris and I go to the hoity toity part of the area where Chris makes a daring purchase of Crocs for me. They're comfortable, but I feel like Papa Smurf. Chris is happy. Ashley is happy. We rush of to St. Joan's to make an pitch for the concert at the announcements, but we're too late! Linda makes the pitch. I join the music team for mass, and they're tremendous. Zack, the director is a Music Ministy Alive alum and he's done a great job with this team of young musicians. After mass, there's a short break and then a concert by yours truly. Chris joins me and we dynamically duo in our Crocs. Chris looks cool and I'm Papa Smurf. Lots of folks, young and old, show up and it rocks. After the concert, we hang with folks, Ashley and crew sell bunches of smiley face shirts, and then we're off to Coney's for you guessed it, "Tournament of Coneys." Exhausted and on the verge of a Coney Coma, I hit the hay.
October 8-9, 2006
Next morning, play at all the masses at St. Anastasia to help plug the concert. The Detroit Tigers just won the national pennant and so there's a buzz in the air or there is too much coffee and donuts is happening. It's a long day. Chris is already on a plane back to Vermont, and in a car headed back to the hotel. Regina Simone, who is actually the person who invited me to St. Anastasia a bunch of years ago, is my wheels for the next two days. She rocks. She rolls. In fact, after the masses, she rolled me back to the Hampton. Later that day, back at the Church, setting up tee shirts and CDs, and getting ready for the concert. Lots of folks helping, and all of a sudden the church is teeming with all kinds of folks. Mike Chamberland plays percussion and we pray, we praise, our faith is ablaze. Hello. The next morning I'm at Bishop Foley High. Fr. Gerry invites me to do that thing I do. I introduce the students and teachers to my little friends, the Beatles and Eminem. Blend it with a little Francis and Clare of Assisi, Jesus the rebel, and BAM. It's on. Crazy good. Back at St. Anastasia that evening, it's a closing faith bash primarily for middle school and their families. It's a nice crowd with lots of energy. We show up and the Spirit brings it. Good to hang with my friends here. They're heroic with their day to day committment to young people in the church. Lord have mercy.
