Oct 5, to Windsor, Ontario, my friend Barry Elliott and family of overt and covert catechists--spending so much time in Canada, fishing, timmy hortoning, making friends, making music--I'm on the verge of being a Canuck--gotta love it! Over to Detroit, compliments of a ride from Linda Jarvis and Ashley Ahyou, to St. Joan of Arc. Chris Gosselin joins the fray and dude, buys me a pair of Crocs. Chris rocks in crocs, but I swear I look like a smurf. An angel named Pat hooks up a fishing trip with Larry, the fishing king, and we hunt for walleye. We don't catch much but that's why it's called "fishing" and not "catching." Chris and I make some music

and hang with the St. J folks, and before it's over, I'm wearing Crocks and a pair of Jason Jarvis' sweat pants. Cool. Actually, I totally took them home with me. Thanks J-man. Over to St. Anastasia, hitching a ride from Regina Simone, who actually brought me out to St. A's about 5 years ago for my first visit. The area was buzzing as Detroit just knocked the Yankees totally out of contention for the playoffs.

Celebrate Jodi's birthday. She rocks. She rolls. She's lives the saying, "Behind every great man is a woman rolling her eyes." I like her a lot!

The very next day, I'm in Casper, WY, for the Fall Conference. Rox Monterastelli picks me up from the airport; we catch up with life's going's on; she gives me the Subaru to drive while I'm in town (YIKES!) Fall Conference rocks as always. See many old friends and make new ones. Guy is crazy as ever; Jim isn't phased; Randy and Cheryl are ever faithfully present; Chris and Julie, Lord have mercy! Elaine Menardi, you and the core rocked the casbah! JUSTICE of God. Don't forget the Invisible Children of Uganda. We won't. Google this, everyone. Pray and act!

First day of the weekend, I get a call from Jodi. She's crying. Lost her job. Not a happy moment. I am sad and mad that I'm not with her in this time. Very sad for Jodi. Glad Jennah is there with her, but I'm sad for her and mad at me. Lord have mercy. And God is here. And there. And every...

Finally home three days later. The family huddles up. Grateful for life and ponder how the adventure will continue. Know we're in good hands. Love surrounds us.

Celebrate my birthday. I'm older than the hills and dustier. Thank goodness for Oil of Olay and Spam Gel. Ewww. Sorry about that.

Head to Syracuse to hang with the Halligan family. I get to meet Liam, finally. DUDE is amazing on that Macintosh. Okay, here's the deal, if you ever meet Liam, dude, check out a picture of Ken Canedo! Ken looks like Liam's Uncle Kenny, or Liam is Ken's nephew. Whoa. Amazing.

Linda H. is the coolest. She picks me up at the airport and we enjoy the sweet beautifications of Syracuse as we head up to the Halligan Hacienda. Which by the way, is way better than any hotel. And I'm not just saying that because I got to meet the wonderdog, Gromit Halligan. That has to be the cutest dog on the planet.
Head over to the church and there's Bob, playing with the coolest band of young folks in the Milky Way. Girl on drums. Girl on bass. Girl band members rock. Guys on the other instruments. It's an evening sponsored by Mega Youth Ministries, covering Syracuse's west side. Jusin Fatica is the lead youth director of this event that reaches five parishes. HBO is doing a movie on Justin and the ministry. Pretty crazy, huh? Mick is the amazing guitar player running sound this evening. AMAZING. Evening over; crash at the Halligans, and Bob picks me up the very next morning before the bird awaken. ...Bob drives me to the airport and we chat about the good and the tough...and a little of the awful. It's all beautiful. Then, bam I'm gone.

Over to San Francisco, the wonderful family of Christ United Presbyterian Church, to share faith, friendship and food. Pastor Grace and all the beloved are there; Chris is thumping on bass, Julian and Kenny; Brother Haley and Georzanne give me ride home. I'm feeling under the weather by the end of the night. The very next day I'm at St. Bede for a seriously humoungous youth rally. Jon Manongdo saves the day by singing with me. I've got some strange cold going on, but Jon is right there with great vocal strength. Donnie, Kenny, Bernardo are there too. All is good.

Sunday morning, I fly to Calgary. Manny and his son, Dylan, pick me up. There's some white stuff on the ground. Poppa...what is that? I'm wearing a tee shirt and shorts and it's snowing. You can take the boy out of Guam, but you can never take the Guam out of the boy! Faith Day 2006, a gathering of all the employees from the Calgary Catholic School District. Terry Edwards directs a talented corps of teachers who provide music and ministry for the day. David Wells, is the keynote speaker of the day, from the Diocese of Plymouth, in the UK. David delivered powerfully, and at the end of the day, we joined forces for an evening with parents. Learned a great deal from him. Hey, did you realize that I was in Canada again? Pretty cool, eh?
