January 20-23, 2007
Arrived at Orlando Intn'l Airport, Linda Monckton picks me up in the big Monckton Chevy Suburban BOAT! Throw the luggage in back and head to the hotel. Here for a parish mission. Started doing parish missions many years ago with Fr. Greg Comella, C.PP.S. Brought back memories of Greg and I at the Cenacle in Lantana, FL, the Dominican Retreat Center, in Miami, Good Shepherd Episcopal Church in Tequesta, FL, and met sweet friends forever in Florida. It's here where Greg and I started working together, and frankly, Greg is the reason that I'm giving parish missions at all! You can hear Greg in my songs and stories. Say a prayer of love, healing, and thanksgiving for Greg when you think of me.

He is by far, my greatest inspiration in my work. Those who know Greg, hear him in me. I love that man. More on Greg in a later blog, and definitely in the book.

Linda picks me up and takes me to the Church where I meet Brian, the "still pretty new music director" for the parish. Just got there this past summer. He directs the whole musical enchilada, plays the piano, organ, and I think even guitar. Dude rocks. Not to mention, he sets up all the sound gear, and mans the sound board during the whole mission. Nuttin' but love, this Brian. I attend all the masses of the weekend, singing and inviting folks to pray about the mission, and to attend. We are having a mission during the Football Holy Playoff Days. The Spirit breaks thru all of that, regardless, and the mission, the folks, the interactions, the stories, the generosity, honesty, courage, and FAITH, unfold wonderfully and powerfully. Fr. Ben and Fr. Hank are both C.PP.S. dudes, just like Fr. Greg, and that in and of itself rocks. I meet some beautiful people, Russ and Linda with offspring Corey. Cantors galore, Cindy, Lori, and Asia. Barbara, Betty, Tina, Jennifer and other staff. Ed and Ellie (thanks for helping with our table!) Barbara and her joke cracking husband, Jack. SILK, SILK, SILK - What do cows drink? Margie, Ellen, Danong, Carleen, Malcom, Junior, Caz, Stash, Paul and Janna, Zoma and Zack, Adam, Hanna, and Erin; sweet Rose and sweet Lucille, two amazing and beautiful elders of the parish, the Pop and Princess, Rick and Sara; Brendan and Michaela, Manuel, Jose, Al; Hayley, YO! Anthony Lucarelli in da house! And Mimi of course! David and Michelle, their three children, Nicolas, Luke, and the all precious and all powerful, Stephanie. Folks from St. Theresa, an hour and a half away, show up. ROAD TRIP!Had such a great turnout for the mission, yes, even smack dab in the middle of Football Holy Days. Got to visit the Gables, an assisted living place where Fr. Ben, Linda, myself, and a bunch of the elders celebrate mass. This is the stuff, for me. Then off to Southland Suites, where Margie is joyfully surprised that Linda and I are there! I head up the stairs to play for the residents, and Margie starts rounding up all the elders in walkers, wheelchairs, and whatever other forms of mobility. Met Lou and Betty, Carmen, Fannie, and many others. Threw down some This Land Is Your Land, You Are My Sunshine, Bicycle Built For Two, Quando, Quando, Quando, a little Englebert Humperdink meets Dean Martin, meets Jesse Mani-Guam-Boy-Busan. HOLLA! Beautiful moments. Linda gets the Super Servant award though. She's driving me all around the area. I'm probably driving her nuts. Picks me up early, drops me off, late. HELLO, on the morning of my flight home, the girl rises at 4AM, picks me up at 4:15AM, then drives me to the airport, drives back home, and without a sound of whining, whimpering or complaint of any kind. She's what we call the Servant Prototype, who serves everyone all the time. In the words of Bob Halligan, this mission, and this moment....God done good.
